Rainy Days & Mondays

It’s a testament to the enduring appeal of The Carpenters and their music that the venue was packed for this greatest hits concert. Singer Claire Furley was absolutely spot-on as Karen Carpenter, but this was no cheesy, ‘Stars in Their Eyes’ style mimicry. She sang with genuine passion and sincerity and really got to the heart of each number. Backed by a band of first-class musicians, each song came to dazzling, poignant life. A wonderful night out, and not just for hard-core Carpenters devotees. It was impossible to leave without a large smile on your face or, indeed, a tear in your eye.
