Five houses to be built on Hove site

A builder has been given planning permission to put up five houses on a site in Hove.

Birch Restorations, run by John Regan, has been granted permission to build the four-bedroom homes in The Hyde, off Rowan Avenue, in Hangleton.

The Hyde currently contains a builder’s yard, parking and the Lions Gate block of sheltered flats. It used to be home to the Alliance and Leicester Sports and Social Club.

Mr Regan, whose Hove company is named after the West Pier architect Eugenius Birch, once put forward plans to restore the ruined pier.

Birch Restorations, of Victoria Terrace in Hove, has three years to start work on the houses in Hangleton and must pay £7,500 towards the cost of improving bus stops in the area.

Eleven people living near the site wrote in to object to the plans.

They were given conditional approval by Brighton and Hove City Council Planning Committee this afternoon (Wednesday 26 June) at Hove Town Hall.
