Thousands run the Race For Life at Stanmer Park

More than 2,500 women and girls ran 5k through Stanmer Park and Coldean woods on a glorious sunny afternoon in east Brighton this afternoon (Saturday 29 June).

Although the winner of the Race for Life completed the course in about 20 minutes, it was far more about the taking part.

The annual charity run, in aid of Cancer Research UK, is a focal point in Brighton’s calendar.

Amanda Woodhouse, 43, who suffers from a brain tumour, said a few motivational words prior to the start.

Mrs Woodhouse, a mother of two boys, heads her own charity, Amanda’s Angels. The four-year-old charity raises thousands for research into brain cancer every year.

The afternoon was held in a superb atmosphere, with tombolas, side shows and displays.

A similar number are expected to take part in the second Brighton Race for Life tomorrow (Sunday 30 June).
