Comedy: Krater Comedy Club

Favourite of stag nights and comedy fans alike, this backbone of Brighton comedy is worth shouting about

Over the years many great acts have passed across the stage at Krater Comedy Club, thanks to the keen eye of its talent bookers. From Jim Jeffries accidentally orchestrating a near riot as a headline slot, to Milton Jones creating a calm and silly eye in the usual weekend storm in which he transported us to a parallel and rather surreal world. Hosting Sarah Millican, Seann Walsh, Micky Flannigan, Michael McIntyre and a host of other very famous funny faces, Krater is a fantastic resource for any comedy-lover. Plus it’s hosted most nights by the multi award-winning compere Stephen Grant, who picked up industry favourite Chortle’s gong for best MC in 2008 and 2011, as well as being nominated for it in both the years inbetween.

This weekend’s corral of shows start on Thursday evening, showcasing the talents of Luke Toulson (BBC Radio 4 and 5), Jim Campbell (has performed for the Queen!), Gar Murran (The Bulmers Comedy Competition winner) and Nathan Caton (as heard on his own BBC Radio 4 series), hosted by the ever-fab aforementioned Stephen Grant, as are Friday’s proceedings. Tipping the laughter scales then will be Phil Chapman, Brendan Dempsey and the rather brilliant Craig Hill – with the same line-up carrying forward to Saturday except seeing Chapman replaced by Kai Humphries and Andrew Stanley picking up MC duties.

It’s well worth keeping an eye out on Komedia’s website to see who’s playing each weekend. And checking out the special meal deals on offer.

In the centre of town, it’s easy to see how it’s become the go-to comedy haven for weekend laughter.
