Film: A Field In England
In 2011 the second feature film from Ben Wheatley, british horror ‘Kill List’ generated an incredible positive reaction with critics who regarded it as an ‘outstanding’ piece of work. Next, his black comedy ‘Sightseers’ proved very popular at Cannes in 2012. This year, Wheatley takes us back to the 17th century with his spectacle of a film, ‘A Field In England’.
Centered around a group of deserters who have retreated from a civil war battle, the soldiers and a man named Whitehead (played by League of Gentleman’s Reece Shearsmith) come across an alchemist who forces them into searching for hidden treasure. One meal of mysterious mushrooms and a disturbing tent incident later, this film takes a brilliantly enigmatic journey into the weird and extraordinary where those with a active imagination will deliriously follow.
