Dionysus Lives – Robert Greenwood

Rant or ritual? Fuelled by a very respectable Beaujolais, liberally shared amongst the select audience, a one-time wine salesman reminisced about his job, past passions and the state of the natural world, as you do after a few glasses. This short presentation, barely half the advertised hour, was padded out with extended episodes of mime and loud music, and seemed at times to be extemporised. Stream of consciousness doesn’t make for drama but perhaps this ‘play’ was meant to be performance art. The faltering strip show and audience participation in grape treading gave that essential frisson. The wine was good.
