I Am Divine + Female Trouble
Gay icons is the theme of this year’s Brighton and Hove pride; and what better way to kick off the newly added LGBT film festival line-up than by celebrating the life and work of Divine, actress, singer, drag queen and one spectacular icon in the gay community.
This night showcased ‘I Am Divine’, a touching documentary about how Harris Glen Milstead became the larger-than-life vibrant personality who affected so many people’s lives – followed by ‘Female Trouble’, one of the many wonderfully trashy outlandish films where Divine worked with director John Waters. What made the night more fantastic were the Divine fans and followers who were channelling the diva’s spirit in attitude and costume. A thoroughly enjoyable night, setting the bar high for the festivities to follow.
