The Wurzels
A strange booking for a Saturday night on Madeira Drive, nonetheless the carrot-crunching, scrumpy-swilling West Country cross between Chas ‘n’ Dave and The Grumbleweeds pulled a large crowd of cider-fuelled fans. Taking to the stage to a farmyard soundtrack they kicked off with ‘Blackbird’, from their 70s heyday and played a greatest hits set complete with 70s references and corny 70s jokes. Aside from a well-executed highland fling accordion solo from Scotsman Tommy Banner it was a standard run through of their ‘ooo arrr’ hits with a strange encore of Kaiser Chiefs’ ‘Ruby’ and a tired dance version of ‘Combine Harvester’.
