Families escape car stress with free tickets to the
South Downs this summer
This summer, parents have the opportunity to leave their stuffy cars behind and experience a fun alternative, with free bus tickets to the South Downs for one week only and half price travel for the rest of the summer!
Brighton families who dread car journeys with kids can try the bliss of the Breeze Bus for free or half price, thanks to the South Downs National Park Authority, Brighton and Hove City Buses and Brighton and Hove City Council. The offer comes as new research shows that a fifth of Brighton parents travelling by car have felt their blood pressure rise and one in ten has been reduced to tears. A third of drivers have pulled over suddenly because of fighting and 38% have had their plans ruined by traffic.
Unsurprisingly, nearly three quartersdream of another way to travel on summer days out, but the vast majority aren’t aware that a fun, cost effective alternative is right on their doorstep[iv]. The Breeze Buses provide regular, child friendly transport to family favourites such as Ditchling Beacon, Stanmer Park and Devil’s Dyke, allowing families to relax, chat and enjoy the scenery together.
And this summer, parents can try the service for free during the week of 29th July – 4th August and then at half price for the rest of the summer holidays, thanks to the South Downs National Park Authority’s Discover Another Way campaign. For the many parents put off public transport by perceived expense[v] this offer, along with regular family discounts available from Brighton and Hove Buses and Southern Trains, will be welcome news.
It will also please the two in five parents in Brighton[vi] who simply wish that there was a way their partner and themselves could relax and enjoy the journey, or enjoy a glass of wine at lunch[vii]. Those that believe that public transport is too ‘irregular’[viii] will be surprised to hear that the Breeze Bus comes as often as twice every hour.

Public transport in this part of the South Downs is easy, child friendly and cost effective – and delivers you right to the doorstep of the Downs.
