Event: Pride 2013

Celebrate loud & proud as Pride 2013 brings a season of spectacular events to Brighton & Hove

2013 is a momentous year for gay pride this year as it expands outwards and upwards in terms of events and special LGBT shows. This is an exciting year for Brighton Pride as it prepares to bring you some incredible music, film, entertainment and, who could forget, the vibrant parade.
You may notice one of the first innovative additions in the upcoming Arts & Film festival running from now until Sunday 4 August. Expect a full range of colourful film screenings, art and photography exhibitions and a diverse selection of brilliant theatrical performances, all encompassing the immense feeling of pride this weekend creates.

Of course, Pride wouldn’t be right without its legendary parade, packed with amazing floats reflecting this year’s theme of ‘Gay Icons’. But hang on, make sure you don’t miss out on the main event itself, taking place in Preston Park on Saturday 3 August. Gear up for a star-studded line up of iconic musicians from the incredible Alison Moyet and Paloma Faith to popular X Factor contestant, the little songtress herself, Lucy Spraggan.

Brighton held its first Pride march back in 1973, when brave gay men and women marched for better rights and awareness. Despite the obvious political and humanitarian reasons for which Pride will always exist, it has come a long way and the last few years have been able to celebrate changes made by government and revel in a positive outcome. In terms of its charity work, raising funds for good causes is paramount to the Pride organisers, having generated £13,000 for local LGBT and HIV groups.
