Stage: Privates On Parade
Miss Jason is Captain Terri Dennis in Privates On Parade Peter Nichols’s rip-roaring comedy Privates On Parade comes to the Theatre Royal Brighton from Thursday 22 – Saturday 31 August. It’s 1948 and peace has returned to Britain but in South East Asia British soldiers are fighting a forgotten war against communism. In order to keep the troops entertained as they face the might of Chinese Communism, SADUSEA (Song and Dance Unit South East Asia) are called in to help.
Jason Sutton (Miss Jason) leads a talented troop of fine young soldiers in this hilarious play with music. Jason plays cross-dressing Acting Captain Terri Dennis as he romps his way through the jungle, giving us performances as Marlene Dietrich, Vera Lynn, Carmen Miranda and Noël Coward. In his delicate hands are a set of privates, whose journey from boys to men is handled with care.
The comedy of this play is set against the violent jungle warfare where laughter meets death and shy, inexperienced National Service lads become men. Privates On Parade is based on Peter Nichols’ own National Service experiences while entertaining the troops. The production is brought to us by the team who produced the hugely successful Boys In The Band and more recently, Diamond.
