Monty Panesar urinates on Brighton bouncers
Sussex and England cricketer Monty Panesar has been fined for urinating on bouncers outside a Brighton night club.
Panesar had earlier been thrown out of the club, Shooshh, in King’s Road Arches, opposite the Brighton Centre. The club was the venue for a post-Pride party.
A group of women were reported to have said that the Test cricketer was hassling them.
Panesar, 31, was said to have been celebrating England’s Ashes victory over Australia, having been a member of the squad.
The left arm spinner was reported to have urinated from the promenade above on to the bouncers who were on the lower promenade.
They gave chase and took him back to the club where he was held until police arrived.
A Sussex Police spokesman said: “A 31-year-old man received a fixed penalty notice for being drunk and disorderly after being seen urinating in public near the Shooshh Club in King’s Road Arches, Brighton, around 4.13am on Monday (5 August).”
The club said: “Sussex County Cricket Club can confirm that an incident took place involving Monty Panesar in the early hours of Monday 5 August.
“The matter is under full investigation and the club will make no further comment at this stage.”
A spokesman for Panesar is reported to have said that he apologised to anyone he had offended.
He has been selected for the Fourth Test which starts at Durham on Friday (9 August).
