Privates on Parade
Peter Nichols’ play is a great work and an ambitious one, tackling themes of war, racism and sexuality and dishing it up with song and dance. In the wrong hands it could be a disaster but here the cast and direction do the thing proud. Jason Sutton gives a marvellous rendering of Terry, the camp leader of SADUSEA, a concert party in the Far East post WW II. Eric Potts steals the scenes he commands and the rest of the company, mainly young actors, dare I say it, pull it off. This is an unmissable treat, packed with great gags and heart rending emotions cleverly gift wrapped in wild campery and tied up in with a spot of well used nudity.
