Lynn Ruth Miller: Show me the funny
Lynn Ruth Miller – Granny’s Gone Wild presented by Latest TV, directed and with songs by Latest Bill wins TO&ST Cabaret Award 2013
Time Out and Soho Theatre announced the winner of the second annual TO&ST Edinburgh Cabaret Award: Lynn Ruth Miller performing Granny’s Gone Wild. Lynn Ruth Miller’s poignant and hilarious show as performed at Latest Musicbar in Brighton, where it previewed, included great videos produced by Val Aviv and Bill Smith of Latest TV with lyrics written by Lynn Ruth and additional songs written and composed by Bill.
After a very close contest Lynn Ruth Miller was unanimously agreed by the judges as the winner of TO&ST, the Time Out & Soho Theatre Edinburgh Cabaret Award, the Fringe’s only prize created to recognise cabaret work. The show stood out as a truly subversive show with a unique voice and perspective.
Lynn Ruth Miller was presented the award on Wednesday 21 August by the Time Out & Soho Theatre award judges.
On their decision the Time Out London Cabaret Editor, Ben Walters said: “The wonderful aspect of Miller’s set is that she utterly embraces her age, mining the experience of getting older for material on everything from sex and drugs to failing bodies and seizing the day, without the slightest shred of sentimentality or solemnity – and in terms of demanding and rewarding an audience’s conversational engagement, she could write the book.”
Latest Bill commenting on the award said, “It’s really great to have worked with Lynn Ruth Miller on this show. Lynn Ruth totally deserves this accolade and I am certain she will be a huge star when we grow up! “
