Crime pays for Brighton allotments to be made safer

The Race Hill Allotments in Brighton are to be made more secure with a £250 donation from Sussex Police.

The money comes from the Police Property Act Fund, made up of money received from property confiscated by order of the courts and then sold.

The latest donation from the fund will be used to protect the Brighton allotments from criminals.

It will pay for crime prevention equipment including motion sensor lighting aimed at deterring trespassers.

Allotment holders have also been given crime prevention advice on how to improve general security at the site.

PCSO Jessica Daltrop said: “It will give plot holders peace of mind that the land they put a lot of hard work into will be safe.

“I am really pleased to have got the funding as the allotments are a lovely relaxing asset to Brighton and an enormous amount of work goes into their maintenance.

“Anything that deters criminals and preserves this is great.”
