House fire in Portslade started accidentally

An investigation carried out after a house fire in Portslade has found that the cause of the blaze was accidental.

Four crews from East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were sent to tackle the blaze in Hamilton Close, Portslade, at just after 4.20pm yesterday (Friday 6 September).

About 20 firefighters from Hove and Preston Circus in Brighton spent almost four hours at the scene dealing with what was described as a serious fire.

It started in the kitchen of the two-storey end-of-terrace property.

Six people were taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton by the South East Coast Ambulance Service.

One of the six – a man in his forties – suffered serious burns to his legs.
