RISE 8K run for women
FitBitch Running Club – Free Wednesday night run training for 8K runners.
Rise & shine
Rise up against domestic abuse & take part in the RISE 8K run for women in October
Latest 7 cover star Lou Featherstone had a ‘running transformation’ which she says is down to RISE.
“The RISE 8K was a brilliant start for me. I did the relay with friends and it changed my life – running with loads of women was so amazing. I’m 42 now and consider myself a runner – I never thought I’d say that! The 8K was such a buzz, I entered the Brighton Half and, as clients and friends alike have had help from RISE, it seemed natural to support them.
“When people spotted my pink vest they’d yell support for RISE – they’re so well known and respected in the community for their amazing work. All the cheers and love carried me over the finish line. The support from RISE was brilliant and the money raised at the 8K and other events plays a vital role in providing this help.”
One RISE 8K runner said: “I’m a first time runner and a survivor of an abusive relationship. Leaving was the easy bit compared with what came next: finding out my children were being abused. It was a living nightmare. Thanks to local domestic violence services and the police we have enjoyed over two years of safety and peace. Without organisations like RISE I’m not sure I’d be saying or feeling that. The work they do is absolutely vital. I was given so much help when I felt at my most vulnerable.”
If you’re a bit nervous about running, Fitbitch Running Club are offering new members free Wednesday night training in Hove. Owner Rachael Woolsten said: “We’re proud to support the RISE 8K and Relay – we’re a women’s only club for total beginners to speedy dashers alike. We can make you fitter and faster, and learn to love running too – so what are you waiting for?!’
RISE 8K, Sunday 6 October, 2013, 10.15am, Saltdean seafront.
