Nina Conti
Brilliant, brazen, bawdy, undeniably creepy, disturbing and queasily surreal, Nina Conti takes ventriloquism to a whole new level. Kicking off her Dolly Mixtures Tour in Shoreham, she introduced us to a bunch of new characters: her eight-year-old daughter, Nina, their lothario builder, Stefan, (who required help from a not so willing audience member), and their anxious, schizophrenic pit bull, Killer, pining for his lost brother who could could go from sweet family pet to dangerous foul-mouthed canine in the blink of an eye. Monk was, of course, still the undisputed star. His (her?) Shakespeare joke was absolute genius. A fabulous evening of comedy and pathos. Be sure to catch Ms Conti when she appears at the Brighton Comedy Festival next month.
