One Hove pub closes while another wins national prize

The Atlas pub in Hove has closed.

The pub, on the corner of Holmes Avenue and Old Shoreham Road, was known as the Stadium for many years – it was close to the Goldstone Ground, the Brighton and Hove Albion’s old football stadium.

New tenants are believed to be due to take over the pub which specialised in Italian food.

It has now been boarded up by a security company after shutting up shop a few weeks ago.

Meanwhile, the George Payne in Hove won the title of Best Turnaround Pub at the Great British Pub Awards last night (Thursday 12 September), the Morning Advertiser said.

The George Payne reopened under new management last year, having previously traded as the Kendal Arms.

The pub is on the corner of Payne Avenue and Kendal Road, near Stoneham Park and Aldrington Station in Hove.
