Emporium excitement

Autumn season offers up mystery, horror, panto and more

Emporium, Brighton’s new professional theatre, café-bar and studio launch their Autumn/Winter season with a selection of extraordinary experiences from Brighton and across the UK. We’ve had a sneaky peek at what the season offers…The Stories of Shakey P: classical playwriting and hip-hop meet in an electrifying lyrical brew, as Charlie Dupré presents some of Shakespeare’s best known works with a riveting, contemporary, rap slant. Charlie hot-foots it to Emporium from the Edinburgh Festival where The Scotsman called this “the best English lesson you never had.”

Direct from The Curve, Leicester, The Lovesong of Alfred J Hitchcock is a haunting journey into the mind of one of the most famous film directors. Adapted from David Rudkin’s award-winning radio play, starring Martin Miller in the title role and Roberta Kerr (Coronation Street) as Alma Hitchcock.

The Finborough Theatre has an incredible reputation for championing new writing and staging brave and bold productions. Emporium are proud to present the first of a series of Finborough/Emporium transfers: Fishskin Trousers, by Elizabeth Kuti, weaves together the mysterious tale of three lost souls, united across history by the common setting of the fishing village of Orford, Suffolk.

For Halloween season, Emporium’s own repertory theatre company present their first production: Emporiumacabre. Following in the terrifying tradition of the notorious Grand Guignol this anthology of horror and things that go bump
in the night is not for the faint-hearted and promises to set your pulse and imagination racing – but be warned: there will be no escape, no mercy
and no refunds!

If horror is not your thing then we were delighted to discover that, after a three year drought and running right across the Christmas period, Emporium is bringing panto back to Brighton! Cinders is their magical retelling of the classic fairytale: a thrilling adventure for all the family, with sumptuous costumes, magical effects, silly slapstick and outrageous characters. The perfect escape from Winter!

And there’s more: tea dances, Murder Mysteries, children’s theatre, professional development courses, Emporium’s programme is jam-packed with something for everyone.

Emporium café is open from 9am till 12:30am with a wide selection of teas, coffees, cakes, snacks and alcohol for you to enjoy either on their own or as an accompaniment to your theatrical experiences.
