Marine life: Kirsty Pollard invites you to become a Special Constable

As well as working full-time at the marina our Security Manager, Colin Tribe volunteers with the Brighton and Hove Neighbourhood Policing Team. He volunteers as a Special Constable, part of the Employer Supported Policing Initiative.
Ever wondered what it’s like to be a Special Constable? Well now’s your chance to find out as Sussex Police are recruiting volunteers to undertake this exciting role. Being a Special Constable is a unique and interesting way to volunteer your time and serve your local community.

In Sussex, over 380 people currently spend a minimum of four hours a week as volunteer police officers serving the local community. Special Constables have the same powers and much of the same training, as full-time police officers, playing a vital role in neighbourhood policing. Now there are opportunities for 120 new recruits currently being sought for training courses being run in 2014.

Colin Tribe said “I joined Sussex Police as a Special Constable five years ago because I wanted to contribute to make Sussex a safer place. The support I get from my full-time employer to volunteer as a Special Constable shows the dedication of Brighton Marina to give something back to the community that we live and work in – this is further repaid by the enhanced training and professionalism that I am then able to bring back to my day job.”
