Music: Shakedown
…is getting bigger and better!
Shakedown is back again this year for what we hope to be an Indian Summer of outdoor musical delights. The big headliner for this year is Rizzle Kicks, the London-born but Brighton groomed duo who have become hot property in a very short space of time. Their new album, Roaring 20s has recently dropped, and is another brilliant bouncy melange of hip hop, funk and tunes galore. This should be a massive homecoming show.
This year there is a brand new stage in the shape of the Audio Arena, in associate with Brighton’s Audio club, focussing on house and future bass music, and headlined by the Queen of Friday Night on BBC Radio 1, Annie Mac. House legend Kerri Chandler is back in the limelight as house music continues its revival, and expect him to mix up soul, jazz and disco in his inimitable style.
Also on the bill are Toddla T Sound, featuring both elements of live performance and deejaying with live vocalists, including Shola Ama, Serocee and MC DRS. Then there’s another American house legend Marc ‘MK’ Kinchen, best known for his classic remix of Nightcrawlers ‘Push The Feeling On’. Also on the bill are relative newcomers Hot Since ’82, and DEVolution, featuring one half of garage kings Artful Dodger and Tom Devos.
The Supercharged Arena is back this year, featuring heavyweight DJs such as Nero, Radio 1’s Zane Lowe, Krafty Kuts, A Skillz and legendary drum’n’bass label RAM Records hosting a four-hour session. It’s going to be bass-tastic!
