Kathryn Williams + support from Alex Cornish

The small but loyal crowd loved the sweet, understated songs of Kathryn Williams. Stand out tracks were ‘Sequins’, a powerful torch song co-written with Ed Harcourt and a heartbreaking, blisteringly angry cover of Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Dancing in the Dark’ as the encore. Kathryn Williams does not have to try too hard to be good; her beautiful voice is pitch perfect and her talent evident. But she could be great. If she had injected some of the passion she ripped out of Springsteen’s lyrics into her own songs she could have elevated this lovely, mellow gig to a whole other level.
