Hove women woken by stranger in their bedrooms

Two women in separate properties in Hove were woken by a stranger in their bedroom at about midnight.

The man was spotted climbing drainpipes on homes near Boundary Road by the border of Hove and Portslade.

He was arrested shortly afterwards on suspicion of burglary.

Sussex Police said: “Further inquiries led to the man, 29, of Polish origin, being sectioned under the Mental Health Act.

“Police wish to thank local people who reported the man’s suspicious behaviour, which occurred around midnight on Monday 30 September, and reassure residents that it was an isolated incident.

“He was first seen climbing drainpipes in St Leonard’s Road, Hove.

“Soon afterwards it is believed the same man got into a flat in Brittany Road. The occupant awoke to find him in her bedroom, but he apologised and left.

“The man then went into a further property in Brittany Road and again a woman awoke to find him in her bedroom.

“Police were contacted and officers arrested the man. He has since been admitted to a mental health unit.

“No one was hurt or threatened.”
