Coffee Concert Series – Jubilee Quartet

I get a wonderful optimistic glow when listening to young stars at the start of their careers. Their opening Haydn was stately and rather safe, even the Hungarian obligato which could have been more impassioned. They warmed up with Janácek’s ‘Intimate Letters’, which was beautifully animated and full of colours and effect. Schubert’s ever popular ‘Death And The Maiden’ quartet completed this well-chosen programme. They might have communicated better with the audience if they hadn’t been so turned in upon themselves. However, they certainly made a fine start to this concert series, which continues on Sunday mornings monthly until March.
