Seth Lakeman

Brighton’s favourite folkie returned to deliver a sermon to his devoted flock, armed with a new album and a water-tight band. This was very much a collaborative effort, with multiple permutations, allowing the musicians to show their mettle. Lisbee Stainton duetted on ‘Solomon Browne’, Lakeman’s emotional tribute to the Penlee lifeboat disaster and a heartfelt, if sombre, love song for his wife resonated beautifully around the pews. The furious fiddle of ‘Lady Of The Sea’ and ‘Kitty Jay’ raised the crowd from their seats and the evening ended on a high with a hoedown encore. Folk-pop at its finest.
