Gars celebrates 30 years
Gars Chinese restaurant celebrated its 30th birthday on 2 October. Since opening in 1983 the family-run restaurant has become a Brighton Institution, always maintaining the smart and sophisticated atmosphere with polished bamboo flooring, silk shades and fantastic food, to provide the perfect oriental experience.

Alive Fitness Superhero Day
Wednesday 2 October was Superhero Day at Alive Fitness & Natural Health, raising money for the Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice. The Alive team prepared activities throughout the day such as Supergirl yoga, He-Man body workout and Hulk Smash the cycle. Other activities included face painting, cake stall, raffles and prizes. Chestnut Tree House care for children with progressive life-limiting conditions and support their families.

City In Bloom
On 26 September City In Bloom held their prize giving ceremony at the Thistle Hotel attracting hundreds of entries from residents from all over the city. Cllr Geoffrey Theobald and Chair Paul Skelly handed out the awards to the winners. This year’s competition was organised by a volunteer group, with support from businesses, other well wishers and City Parks. The aim of City In Bloom is to improve the streets and make the city a better place to live and visit.

House Of Beauty
Thursday 26 September celebrated the opening of House Of Beauty in Southwick. Owner Louise started the salon after spotting a gap in the market around the area. House Of Beauty offers a wide range of treatments from spa and body treatments to pamper parties and beauty and holistic treatments, all in a relaxed environment. Chairman of Adur, Mike Mendoza, was in attendance.

Shakedown 2013
Returning to Stanmer Park for the third year running, Shakedown Festival brought a huge line up over two days across three stages. Catering to a range of musical tastes, from the energetic drum and bass of the Supercharged Arena, to the dance anthems of Audio Arena and the huge chart toppers featured on Shakedown’s main stage.
