Slaid Cleaves

Self-proclaimed “relatively obscure” Maine man Cleaves has been championed by Whispering Bob Harris, and he had a throng of loyal fans gathered in the intimate Greys pub tonight.

Cleaves delivered a beautifully understated and engaging acoustic set, accompanied by the breathtaking Jojo Jaque on mandolin and violin.

Steeped in folk tradition, this set showcased Americana music at its warmest. Story songs of lost love and workplace disasters abound, and were lifted by Cleaves’ pure vocals.

Cleaves has warmth and charm in abundance, and not a trace of arrogance. His anecdotes gave life to his music with gentle humour.

Everybody in that room was part of something truly special tonight.
