The Lovesong Of Alfred J Hitchcock

“I cannot live, I can only create images”, a stark quote that exemplifies one of this play’s main themes, the distance Hitchcock felt from people (attractive women in particular) due to his being overweight and his “crazed inner life”. Writer David Rudkin and director Jack McNamara put on an engrossing show, and Martin Miller’s performance as Hitchcock is hauntingly brilliant, delivering passionate speeches about his mother and his astounding visual imagination, tinged with aggression towards his heroines. Intriguingly delving into psychological postulations, this play delivers on all fronts with creative staging and sound effects, great performances and rich subject matter.
