Charles Bradley & The Extraordinaires
After a triumphant appearance at the summer’s Love Supreme festival, great things were expected from the newly-crowned King of Soul. Looking the part in a sequinned white suit, it was unfortunately clear from early on that his voice was not at its best. Unsurprising given the throat-wrenching roars that featured throughout a set of new soul classics. His superb band effortlessly filled the space while an apologetic Bradley briefly left the stage but, ever the professional, he treated the capacity crowd to an explosive set plus encores. Despite the exhausted larynx this was still a well-executed old school soul revue.
