A CCTV picture has been released of one of the suspects involved in two stabbings on Brighton seafront last weekend.
The two men who were stabbed had stepped in when they saw a group of men attacking a man on the middle level of Madeira Terrace.
One suffered a stab wound to the throat and the other was stabbed in the hand. One of their friends was left with a head injury after he was hit with a weapon. The victims are 20 years old.
Sussex Police has published a CCTV picture which is believed to show one of the attackers carrying a chair.
Detectives want to speak to him about attack which took place at about 4.40am on Saturday 5 October.
The force said: “A group of friends were attacked when they tried to stop a man being beaten up on Brighton seafront.
“The victims were on their way home after a night out when they found a man on the mid level of Madeira Terrace being assaulted by a group of males.
“They intervened and the 20-year-olds were themselves attacked sustaining serious injuries.”
The three friends ran off towards the Palace Pier when the thugs, who had been kicking a man on the ground, turned on the three men who stepped in to help.
They were chased by the thugs who caught up with them outside the Harvester restaurant in Marine Parade where the attack continued.
Detective Constable Paul Ash said: “During the attack a number of items were thrown at the victims.
“The CCTV shows a man carrying a chair in the area at about the time of the attack and we would like to speak to him about what happened.
“There were a lot of people in the area at the time leaving bars and clubs and I am hoping some of them can identify the man or any of those responsible for the violence.”
The thugs were described as four white men.
One had a muscular build and was over 6ft tall, 18 to 20 years old, with short dark hair. He had a tattoo on his upper chest and was wearing a t-shirt which he tore during the attack.
