Brighton shopping centre boss thanks fire crews and police

The woman in charge of Churchill Square has thanked 999 crews after a fire centre closed the Brighton shopping centre this morning (Tuesday 15 October).

A gas cylinder caused the small fire that led to the centre being evacuated at about 8.30am.

The shops reopened to the public just before 1.45pm.

Tina Dallorzo, the centre director, said: “We would like to apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused by the closure of the centre today.

“The safety of our customers is paramount and we would like to thank the East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service and Sussex Police for the excellent work they did in bringing this incident to a safe resolution.

“The fire service has advised us that the centre is now safe to open and normal business has now been resumed.

“We would like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding during this time.”
