Nina Conti – Dolly Mixtures
It’s hard to know where to begin describing the talents of ground-breaking ventriloquist Nina Conti. Judging by her sold-out performance at the Corn Exchange, she appears to have a sickening over-abundance of the stuff.
Her wit is razor-sharp and quick, which enables each puppet that she pulls out amongst the throngs of bags that litter the stage, to be as strong as the next. Conti punctuates large segments of her show with improvisation and audience participation, which tend to be outrageously rude or unpredictably leftfield, but rarely does she fail to hit the comedy g-spot. The audience are falling over themselves with laughter throughout, and most satisfyingly, Conti is laughing along with them and seems genuinely thrilled to be performing.
