Wet Nuns + Loom

Amid talk of a grunge revival, this night’s support, Loom, may be destined to lead that scene. With the nasty riffs and pop-rock nous of a Nirvana or Pumpkins, these youngsters made up for a lack of originality with a refreshingly unpretentious energy. Keeping the nostalgia flowing, headliners Wet Nuns presented a spot-on imitation of the best nineties stoner bands. With gruff vocals reminiscent of the great John Garcia and familiar downtuned heavy guitar and drums, it’s a pity this was their penultimate show before splitting. Perhaps two great tribute acts, still, this is the closest you’ll get to Kyuss and Cobain and co. on these shores.
