Deadline looms to apply for Brighton and Hove secondary school places
Parents have a week left to apply for a secondary school place in Brighton and Hove for their children.
The deadline for applications for a place next September at the ten secondary schools is next Thursday (31 October).
Brighton and Hove City Council said that applications could be made using the council’s website at www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/schooladmissions.
The council said that the web page contained links to all the guidance and advice that parents and carers would need on the city’s secondary catchment areas and admissions process.
Councillor Sue Shanks, chairman of the council’s Children and Young People Committee, said: “Applying on time is vital.
“Every year there are some people who are not offered a place at any of their preferred schools simply because they missed the applications deadline.”
The council said: “Over the past five years everyone who has included their catchment area school or schools in their preference list has been offered either a school in their catchment area or a higher preference.”
Parents and carers can also email the council’s school admissions team at schooladmissions@brighton-hove.gov.uk or call them on 01273 293653 for a hard copy of the application pack.
Those who need extra help with the process – perhaps because English is not their first language or they have just moved to Brighton and Hove – can phone 01273 290355.
There are ten state secondary schools including two academies and a free school. The free school, the recently opened King’s School, is a Church of England secondary. There is also a Catholic secondary school, Cardinal Newman.
The deadline to apply for a primary school place is not until Wednesday 15 January.
