Tunng
Hmmm, Tunng…. Five albums in, these alt-folk/folktronica pioneers remain an attractive proposition as the close to full turnout proved. Despite losing founder Sam Genders after 2007’s Arrows album, and main songwriter along with the ever present Mike Lindsay, Tunng sound essentially the same as always, their acoustic instrumentation at core being supplemented by accoutrements of exotica instrumentation, electronic sounds, and deadpan harmonies. On record, it’s as gentle as lapping waves on a summers day, but here, live, they turn up to nearly 11, the nuances being half-buried by the booming bass and reverberation of the room. But that’s OK, it’s the last gig of a tour, the fans are liking this excuse for a Monday night head nodding and toe tapping excursion, and it looks like Tunng want to let their collective hair down, even to the point of, er, rocking out…
