Brighton and Hove jobs at risk as Co-op announces bank branch closures

Jobs are at risk in Brighton and Hove after the Co-op Bank announced a programme of branch closures.

A spokesman said yesterday (Monday 4 November): “We have announced today that we expect to rationalise our branch network by at least 15 per cent by the end of 2014.

“At this stage we have not announced individual branches that are due to close.”

About 50 branches are believed to be at risk as the Co-op turns to hedge funds for help with a £1.5 billion injection of funds.

These include three local branches – in West Street and Western Road Brighton and in the superstore in Nevill Road, Hove.

There is also a branch at the Meridian Centre in Peacehaven.
