On Friday 18 October, hundreds of Rock Choir members from Brighton, Burgess Hill, Eastbourne, Haywards Heath, Hove and Lewes enjoyed one of their biggest performances yet, at Wembley Stadium. The local singers formed part of Rock Choir’s 5,000-strong ‘circle of sound’ around the pitch to entertain a record-breaking crowd of over 61,000 at the Heineken Cup battle between Saracens and Toulouse.

Rock Choir performed just before kick off and at half time.

Rock Choir is the UK’s largest and most popular contemporary choir, with more than 16,000 members in over 250 local communities.

City Sports & Physical Activity Awards

The 2013 City Sports & Physical Activity Awards award ceremony took place last month. The awards are organised by Brighton & Hove City Council’s Sports Development Team and recognise the achievements of local sporting heroes.
This year a record number of 155 nominations were received. The nominees included sports coaches, teachers and volunteers delivering a wide range of sporting activities across the city.

Chair of the Economic Development and Culture Committee Geoffrey Bowden said: “The winners are to be congratulated for their dedication, they make such a positive difference helping keep people in our city active, motivated and healthy. We are fortunate in Brighton and Hove to have a broad range of sporting activities taking place all year round. The hard work and enthusiasm, often in voluntary roles, is well worth celebrating.”
