Lisa Stansfield

Before Amy and Adele there was Lisa, and on a rainy Sunday night in Bexhill she returned to reclaim her crown. Her latest album was overseen by Michael Jackson collaborators and her amazing funky soul band, including legendary jazz percussionist Snowboy, and brought a Mizell Brothers 70s feel to a career-spanning set. Twenty-plus year old club classics like ‘People Hold On’ and ‘Someday I’m Coming Back’ sounded fresh and her strong soul voice soared on a Barry White cover.

Tonight Miss Stansfield showed that she transcends music’s flighty fashions and proved herself as the queen of Northern(er) soul.
