Yobs attack two American women in Brighton

A gang of yobs attacked two American women near St Peter’s Church in Brighton.

Four boys and two girls mocked the American women’s accents before one of the youths spat at one of the women. She was then kicked to the ground.

Then the other woman was knocked down as the thugs continued to threaten both women and spit at them.

The attack happened by the bus stop near St Peter’s in York Place shortly at about 12.30am on Thursday (31 October).

Sussex Police said that six youths were involved – four boys and two girls aged 16 to 18 years old.

A passer-by, described as a bald man in his forties, intervened to stop the attack. He was also attacked by the gang who kicked and punched him.

Officers investigating the incident want to hear from anyone who saw what happened and in particular would like to speak to the man who stepped in to help the victims.

Anyone with information is asked to phone Sussex Police on 101, email contact.centre@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

Two 17-year-old youths have been arrested in connection with the incident and have been bailed until Friday 6 December.
