Mount Kimbie
A homecoming show is always a cause for celebration, particularly for an act so revered as Mount Kimbie. Their fusion of ambience, garage and hip-hop (‘post-dubstep’ to some) translated well to a live performance. Backed by a drummer, Brightonian Dominic Maker and Kai Campos seamlessly mixed live instrumentation with pre-recorded atmospherics. Whilst the set as a whole drew a bouncy and exuberant reaction from the crowd, memorable peaks would be hard to recall for the casual listener. As were Kai’s vocals, which were left astray on a couple of numbers, ineffective to the cause. A euphoric encore closed the show with finesse but it is still the case that Mount Kimbie are best served late at night, without work the next day to impede the fun.
