Breabach

Scottish trad band of the moment Breabach put on a strong show on their first visit to Shoreham, with a slick and poised mix of tunes and songs. Appropriately for a band whose name means ‘kicking’, several of the upbeat jig and reel sets were accompanied by lively step dancing from Megan Henderson, as well as Breabach’s trademark double bagpipes. Just as finely tuned were the songs, with exquisite Gaelic singing from Henderson and a subtle arrangement of Scotland’s Winter combined with a traditional piobaireachd bagpipe tune. Notable too was an experimental set of traditionally solo piobaireachd and canntaireachd arranged for the whole group. Hopefully this will be Breabach’s first visit of many to Ropetackle.
