BrEMF – DOWLAND’S DEN – Emma Kirkby & Jacob Heringman

A masterclass is a mix of recital, rehearsal and lesson. BrEMF’s distinguished patron Dame Emma and renowned lutenist Jacob Heringman mentored six very talented young musicians through some of the loveliest songs in the English language. The three singers have beautiful voices but didn’t make the most of them at first. Perhaps they were over-awed but with careful encouragement each blossomed, as did the three lutenists, picking up tips and stylistic nuances from the masters.

It was also a marvellous lesson for the audience, training our ears, alerting us to the pit-falls, preparing us for tomorrow’s concert. I can’t wait!
