Fire damages basement of Brighton café

A fire has damaged the basement of a café in the centre of Brighton.

Firefighters were called to tackle the blaze shortly before 7pm yesterday (Sunday 10 November), East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said.

Smoke was reported to be coming from the café in Hampton Place, Brighton, near the Western Road branch of Waitrose.

A fire was found in the basement of the three-storey building.

The fire service said that fire crews from Preston Circus in Brighton used four breathing apparatus and a hose reel to put out the blaze.

It said that the fire was deemed to have started by accident.
