Brighton road closed as suspected burglar is cornered on roof

A road near Brighton Station was closed for almost three hours while a suspected burglar stayed on a roof and refused to come down.

Upper Gloucester Road was shut from shortly after 5am until just before 8am when a 30-year-old man from Brighton was persuaded down and arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary.

Sussex Police said: “Police were called to Camden Terrace in Brighton at about 5.10am today (Thursday 14 November) to reports of a man acting suspiciously in a garden.

“When officers arrived a man had climbed on to the roof of a house in Upper Gloucester Road and was crawling along the top of the property towards Brighton Station.

“A section of Upper Gloucester Road has been sealed off while officers are talking to the man to try to persuade him to climb down.

Brighton and Hove Buses has been contacted as the road is used by some of its services.”

Inspector Adele Tucknott said: “I would like to apologise to people in the area that are being affected by the disruption and would like to thank them for their patience while we deal with the incident.”
