Art of gold

The highlight of our week last week was the private view of artist and drum ’n’ bass guru, Goldie’s solo art show, Lostribes. Taking place at Mead Carney gallery on Dover Street in Mayfair, the party was a star-studded event with a whole host of Goldie’s friends from the world of art, music and sport coming out to support him.
Enjoying the art and the atmosphere were Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand, Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown, musician and actor Ben Drew (the artist known as Plan B) and one of my all-time favourite punk legends and Sex Pistol, Paul Cook. We had a lovely chat with the recently married Mr & Mrs Elliot Gleave, AKA Example and his stunning wife (and former Miss Australia) Erin.
The show, which includes 20 stunning artworks created on wood and one amazing piece of sculpture complete with 24-carat gold teeth runs until 24 November. On the work, Goldie explains: “I’ve always wanted to be really primal. I’ve decided to work with wood and sustained wood to be able to go back to techniques of making frames and cutting them, sanding them and staining them myself. I’ve also gathered loads of models from near and far that remind me of African, South American and Native American culture and how much that reflects on societies and where our ideas of art come from. That has been very important to me.”
If you’re in London in the next few weeks, make sure you check it out. www.meadcarney.com
