STAGE: A Night At The Opera
London Festival Opera returns to the Congress Theatre on Tuesday 19 November with a brand new A Night At The Opera production, bringing together international artists from the major British opera companies including the Royal Opera House, English National Opera and Glyndebourne.
To mark the bicentenary of Verdi’s birth this year the performance will feature staged highlights in costume from the romantic masterpiece La Traviata, which was first performed at La Fenice in Venice in 1853. Based on the play La Dame aux Camélias by Alexandre Dumas fils, La Traviata tells the doomed love story of Violetta, a courtesan living in 19th century Paris, and Alfredo Germont and features some of Verdi’s greatest music.
The evening will also feature celebrated arias and ensembles from the operas of Mozart, Rossini, Bizet, Puccini, Offenbach and Gilbert & Sullivan, and will be accompanied by a select chamber ensemble. With familiar delights and little known gems this is a concert filled with drama, passion and humour, brought alive with intensity by some of the finest players.
London Festival Opera has appeared throughout the UK and Europe including as a guest company in one of the world’s greatest opera houses, La Fenice in Venice. It has an enviable reputation for presenting accessible programmes for the connoisseur and newcomer alike and has developed a unique style combining fabulous music, stylish presentation and introductions with a ‘light touch’.
