Brighton and Hove commuters face delays as engineering works overrun
Commuters from Brighton, Hove and Portslade face long delays and replacement buses this morning (Wednesday 20 November).
Engineering work in the Hassocks area has overrun, leading to 45-minute delays, according to train companies.
They have laid on buses to take passengers between Brighton and Haywards Heath.
Engineering work between East Croydon and Clapham Junction has also overrun, causing further delays nearer Victoria Station in London.
Students and staff at Sussex University and Brighton University also face disruption, with services suspended between Brighton and Lewes.
National Rail said: “Overrunning engineering works in the Hassocks area means trains cannot run between Brighton and Haywards Heath.
“Buses will run between these stations, extending journey times by up to 45 minutes.
“The Brighton and Lewes shuttle services have been suspended until further notice.”
Southern and First Capital Connect are accepting each other’s tickets.
Those taken to the road have been warned about icy conditions with overnight temperatures hovering around the freezing mark.
Temperatures will warm up during the morning with showers reaching the Brighton and Hove area from about 9am.
