Rent 20th Anniversary Concert
Jonathan Larson’s Rent is a rock musical based on Puccini’s La Boheme. It centres around a group of young artists and musicians who are struggling to make a living in New York’s Lower East side while also dealing with issues such as drug addiction and AIDS.
Atomic Kitten’s Natasha Hamilton lead this 20th anniversary cast confidently through the powerful and emotional songs while making great use of the simple but industrial backdrop. The Brighton Centre seemed to be an inappropriate venue for this lively musical. Due to the size, there was a lack of atmosphere and some poor moments of overly loud sound and microphone cross-over. Despite this, Rent and its talented members still managed to rock the audience.
