The James Hunter Six
Colchester’s answer to Muddy Waters rocked up to Madeira Drive to let the good times roll and duly delivered with a rocking set of soulful rhythm and blues. The double saxes provided a punchy Stax feel on the Southern soul numbers and a cover of ‘The Five Royales’ made the venue feel like a 1960s Chicago juke joint. A heartfelt tribute to his wife Jacqueline showcased the whole band and ‘Let The Monkey Ride’ recalled the heyday of Georgie Fame. A couple of mellow Ska numbers featured a swirling Hammond organ and the evening ended with an encore featuring duck walks and Billy Stewart style vocals.
